Noteworthy in 2021

Penetration rates for PCs, tablets, and smartphones haven’t shifted significantly in the past year.

  • PC ownership was virtually unchanged in Singapore between H1 2020 and H1 2021. More than three-quarters (75.7%) of internet users ages 16 to 64 had a desktop or laptop.
  • In addition, 44.2% of those polled owned a tablet, very similar to the 44.7% in H1 2020. As last year, internet users ages 16 to 24 were more likely to own a PC, while tablets were concentrated among 35- to 64-year-olds. PCs and tablets were most common in affluent households.
  • Those larger screens still occupied more of internet users’ time than mobile devices. In H1 2021, respondents spent an average 4 hours, 10 minutes (4:10) daily with desktops, laptops, and tablets, and 3:33 with mobile devices.
  • Smartphone penetration had declined slightly since 2020, but advanced handsets remain the crucial digital device for most internet users; 95.6% of respondents owned one in H1 2021. Only 3.6% had a feature phone.
