Note: an active prepaid or postpaid wireless service agreement with a wireless carrier for a 4G-capable mobile device that connects to a wireless carrier’s' 4G network at least once per month

Additional Note: Handsets may also be able to access 5G networks, but the users do not enter areas where they are able to connect to 5G networks on a monthly basis. Mobile devices may be used to accomplish any phone-based activity, including making voice calls, sending SMS messages, or accessing the internet. Users' mobile devices may access 3G or other earlier types of wireless networks as well so long as they connect to a 4G-LTE network and do not connect to a network that conforms to 5G specifications as defined by the standards organization 3GPP.

Methodology: Estimates are based on the analysis of survey and traffic data from research firms and regulatory agencies, sales projections, historical trends, company-specific data, and demographic and socioeconomic factors.
